I liked it but mostly lost interest or was distracted a lot while listening。 Not doing the book any service。 This book will work much better for people who enjoy epic fantasy and many characters。 I think listening to it is not helping with all the changes between characters, time and places。

A witcher。 A professional。 A hired killer。 But an idealist, nonetheless。 And a moralist。 That’s dangerous in your profession, witcher。 A sign you begin to outgrow your profession。----After years of fruitless searching, Ciri has been found – by a ruthless, sadistic bounty hunter。 Geralt and Yennefer are far away and unable to help。 As Ciri’s enemies circle and plan, it is down to Ciri to make her own fate。I’ve really fallen in love with The Witcher series because it’s extremely excellent fantasy deconstruction。 It plays with very old, dull fantasy tropes, but it plays with those tropes in a very intelligent way and pokes holes in them。 Somehow, The Witcher always has something fresh and interesting to say about the fantasy genre。Everyone’s made a huge deal over Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire saga, which is fair because they are also excellent fantasy deconstruction。 But it’s worth adding The Witcher to that conversation too。It’s gratifying to see how Sapkowski has grown as an author。 The first full-length Witcher novel, Blood of Elves, had so many awkward writing moments and stumbles。 But by The Tower of Swallows, it’s abundantly clear how much more confident Sapkowski has become in his own skills。 The awkward pacing is gone, as is the overreliance on the novella structure。 Sapkowski plays with chronology and narration with a deft and sure authorial hand, weaving together multiple storylines and time periods to create an incredible tapestry of a story。 This series isn’t for everyone。 I’m sure the constant deconstruction of fantasy tropes will frustrate and put off people that like their fantasy tropes served straight。 But it’s definitely the series for me。 And I’m a little heartbroken that I’m almost finished with it。 。。。more

No doubt it is well written, but it is not so gripping as the previous one。 Too much violence for my taste。 Nevertheless I will read the next one。

Before anyone says anything I do still think this is a truly great work of fantasy。 The rating I have given it is due to a couple points that ill outline shortly。 I am writing this review on my second read through this series。So。。。。。。 Once again on my read through of this series again I am struggling with a conflicting series of emotions and opinions。 On one hand this is an incredible fantasy series。。。 a masterpiece。。。。 the kind of thing you don't see an equal too often。 But on the other hand it Before anyone says anything I do still think this is a truly great work of fantasy。 The rating I have given it is due to a couple points that ill outline shortly。 I am writing this review on my second read through this series。So。。。。。。 Once again on my read through of this series again I am struggling with a conflicting series of emotions and opinions。 On one hand this is an incredible fantasy series。。。 a masterpiece。。。。 the kind of thing you don't see an equal too often。 But on the other hand it has some pretty scere structural and pacing problems。。。。 and most of all its deep deep issue with how underage women are portrayed specifically Ciri。 Now I don't know how I missed Dallas of this on my first read through before。。。 maybe I was blocking out how old Ciri was when all this stuff was happening。。。。 maybe it's because I'm specifically looking for this stuff this time and that's why I'm noticing it。。。。 but。。。。。 holy shit I have no idea why there is not uproar on the internet about just the stuff that happens in this book let alone the rest of the series。。。。。I mentioned in a review of a previous witcher book。。。。 that there is a line between "medivial" realism and just。。。 simply a disgusting amount of sexulation and assault of underage girls。 This series has crossed that line in previous installments and it definitely did it again in this one。 I can count at least 4 separate scenes where ciri is either stripped naked and assaulted or just stripped naked and an abundance of sexual comments made about her。 That's just off the top of my head。。。。 ciri is 15。 Before anyone says that's she's just one person let's not forget that augoleme or however her name is spelled is also inserted into the stpry only for entire backstpry to consist of well described multible justices of sexual assault。 Like。。。。。。 so many scenes like this hapoened all together that I felt physically sick and wanted to stop reading。 I have no idea why ciris age was set to be so young。 I dont know why un sexual situations she's described in an appraising way of looking even younger。。。。 iys just extremely disturbing。。。 more so that I have seen such a small number of people on the internet raising this issue。The fact the director of the Netflix show has said she was impressed by how well women were portrayed in this series just makes me physically ill if I think about it too hard。 There is also a severe issue I this book in particular with nothing hapoi g and random jumping around and filler。 That being said I dknt know if this book would have been as entertaining had all of that filler been taken out so I guess I just have to tolerate that part。All that being said I can't help but praise this series for the world amd the characters at the same time。 It's truly and amazing fantasy that I will always cherish。。。。 however as I've gone back into reading it as I mentioned above im just left with so many uncomfortable feeling and questions that im not sure how to answer。 。。。more

This authors style takes a little getting used to, specifically the way he plays with the timeline。 But the story is so good, and the charcaters are unique and multifaceted。 I will keep reading this series to the very end。

Already in book 3, the stakes are higher and it continues in this book (#4 in the series)。 The story is engaging as the main characters each encounter more perils and try to find their way to each other and/or to support Ciri。

I loved the continuation of the story in this book。 I love how the author keeps jumping around to different perspectives and keeps the story interesting。 I've also really appreciated the style of gong to someone's perspective when a story is being told about them and experiencing what they experience。 It makes the little eddies of this nook more interesting and engaging I loved the continuation of the story in this book。 I love how the author keeps jumping around to different perspectives and keeps the story interesting。 I've also really appreciated the style of gong to someone's perspective when a story is being told about them and experiencing what they experience。 It makes the little eddies of this nook more interesting and engaging 。。。more

Another great addition to the series。 While I didn’t enjoy it as much as Baptism of Fire (I miss the dwarves and I wanted more Geralt and Dandelion banter - haha), it continued with some interesting storylines and had an interesting ending。 The style of unfolding the story in the form of first person accounts was interesting too。 On to book 5 😀

Zara Walker

This was told from the perspective of Ciri, a witness, the general third person, and Dandelion。There was plenty of character development for Ciri and Yennefer, but in Geralt, it came back around for him。。。

DungeryPoo

In short words; an amazing extension and character development/redemption arc for Ciri。 I love her, and she is now the Icon, the moment and Zireael。

Roman qui joue sur le temps et l’espace。 Les actions ne sont pas par ordre chronologique et c’est efficace。 Peut-être difficile de suivre puisque certains personnages, particulièrement les méchants, finissent par se ressembler dans l’évolution psychologique。

First things first: Don't listen to people that tell you the POVs are hard to follow or some such nonesense。 It's not。 This is only a little harder to follow than any normal POV。 If people think this in any way is hard, then stay clear of Malazan and probably any other modern fantasy series。 I like it when a author tries new, interesting ways to write a story。 Sapkowski have multiple POVs in each chapter, but he also jumps between now, the past and the distant future。 Sometimes this creates an i First things first: Don't listen to people that tell you the POVs are hard to follow or some such nonesense。 It's not。 This is only a little harder to follow than any normal POV。 If people think this in any way is hard, then stay clear of Malazan and probably any other modern fantasy series。 I like it when a author tries new, interesting ways to write a story。 Sapkowski have multiple POVs in each chapter, but he also jumps between now, the past and the distant future。 Sometimes this creates an interesting read and follows the story nicely, at other times he seems to get a to carried away and it feels out of place。 It doesn't really make the story hard to follow, but it takes you out of it。 The dialog in this book is too often pretentious。 Almost all the characters try to be grand and bombastic in every utterance。 At times every single sentence turns into a monolog。 The whole thing turns into some sort of victorian play, where the actors obviously talk to the audience。 At times the dialog is great, sometimes the monologs really feel at place。 Mostly, the dialog fails miserably。 The timejumps in the story works really well at times。 If they hadn't been used so often, or more naturally, it would have helped the story along。 Instead it became a gimmick。 It slowed the action and phase of the story down, took away the punch of a lot of scenes and left you without wanting to plow on。 There weren't many times I felt I needed to push on to find out what happens。 There weren't mysteries to unravel, there weren't action scenes I needed to know the resolution to。 When something interesting happened, the story jumped to much between characters, or time, for there to be a pay-off。 I understand why Sapkowski does it and what he is trying to accomplish。 He just overuses the tools he has inserted to the story。 I will wait with book 5 a little while。 Hopefully the story had better pacing in it and some more down to earth dialog, between the grand theatric-dialog。 。。。more
